VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS

POSITIVE RESULT?

Stop All Contact – Keep people and pets away from the water. Do not swim, fish, or use the water for drinking or irrigation.

Post Warnings – If the water is on public or shared land, put up signs to alert others to the risk.

Report It – Notify your local environmental or health authority (e.g., your state’s Department of Environmental Quality or Health Department). They may conduct testing or issue public advisories.

Test the Water – Confirm toxin levels with a certified lab or validated field test (like a lateral flow test for microcystins). Visual signs alone aren’t enough to confirm toxicity.

Prevent Spread – Avoid disturbing the bloom or spreading it through boats, equipment, or runoff.

Plan for Cleanup or Management – Depending on the size and severity, professionals may recommend treatment (e.g., algaecides, aeration, nutrient control) to prevent recurrence.

FAQ

Yes. Algae toxins can still be present even if the water looks clean and clear. Toxin levels don’t always correlate with visible blooms.

The entire process takes about 15 minutes, including sample preparation, testing, and result reading.

Keep the kit in a cool, dry place between 36°F and 86°F (2°C and 30°C). Do not freeze. Always check the expiration date before use.

If your result is invalid (e.g., no control line appears), do not use the water and retest with a new kit. Make sure you:

  • Follow the instructions carefully

  • Use a clean, non-contaminated sample container

  • Avoid expired kits or exposure to extreme temperatures

If issues persist, contact our support team for troubleshooting or a replacement.

This test is designed for freshwater sources like ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. It is not intended for saltwater, drinking water, or heavily chlorinated pool water.

Our test detects microcystins, the most common and harmful group of cyanotoxins produced by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).
